Jottings

We have been writing jottings in Room 9.

Each morning we talk about a particular theme (or do something to spark ideas) then we listen to classical music while we write something related to the theme. We only get 5-10 minutes to write our jotting.

We can choose to do any type of writing: prose or poetry, humourous or serious pieces,  even raps.

Mrs Fawbert has to write something too!

Then we all share back what we have written.

Today we smelt cloves and cumin seeds to spark ideas, these are some great samples of jottings from Mico and Michael:

It smells like honey,
It smells like cinnamon,
And it tastes good,
It smells like raisins.

by Mico

My one smells like people smoking in an abandoned house, and it smells like the smoke from a motorbike.

Reflections please...

Thank you for coming to our Student Learning Celebrations...and thank you in advance if you are coming on Thursday.

Please put on your Yellow Thinking Hat and leave us a yellow hat reflection about our celebration process.

Then could you put on your Green Thinking Hat and come up with some extra activities we could do at each station.

Many thanks for your reflections!

Health Education Consultation

Health Education Consultation - The delivery of effective Health Education Programmes helps children to develop a positive and responsible attitude to their own physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.

Along with this, children develop respect for themselves, the rights of others, care and concern for people in the community, for the environment and a sense of social justice.

Every two years we conduct a survey to help us refine the Health Education programmes we offer at Maungaraki School.

This survey will take approximately 10 minutes of your time and will help us immensely in our forward planning... please visit;

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KMBQCNM   to participate.

Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Thank you!

Thank you all for supporting SPCA Cupcake Day!
We raised $20.30 including some kind donations.
Also a huge thank you to Mico, Regan, Aimee, Cozette, Julia, Diane and Maryanne for baking and decorating these scrumptious treats.

This was a case of who killed Grandma?

We held a mock court in our class with the case of who killed Grandma?
The accused was Wolfie and we had a number of witnesses testify (some of whom were also cross-examined) including Prince Charming, Cinderella, the Woodchopper, Sleeping Beauty, Piggie and Piglet. Here are some photos of what we did...

Piggie and Piglet swearing an oath of honesty on our class dictionary...

The police officer questioning our witnesses...

Sleeping Beauty asleep in the witness box beside a bemused judge...

We hope to have another case later this year!

Science Fair

As part of our Science Fair unit, the children will complete a display board about what they have been doing and learning.

Warehouse Stationery and Paper Plus both stock these, however children can make their own as long as it is presentable.

If you want an idea of what a display board looks like, have a look at this link:
